Forum stupidity

As with almost any online forum, dumb comments abound. I don't deal well with them and feel the need to rebut. Tour de France time seems to bring the "best" out of the forum geniuses so I will start chronicling what I find to be some of the stupider comments cluttering the internet.

I don't think AS has the stones to win the TdF. I'd put money on Basso, Cunego, Evans, and others who've been there and done it - that is if Berto can't do it.

AS is Andy Schleck in this posting. Perhaps he doesn't have the "stones" to win the Tour, but I think if you are one slipped chain away from having the same time as the winner then you have the "stones" to win. Not to mention another 2nd place at the Tour and a 3rd at the Giro.

The stupidity comes when it is suggested that the writer would "put money on Basso, Cunego, Evans and others who've been there and done it" When exactly did those three win the Tour? Cunego and Basso had the "stones" to win the Giro. I give them credit for that, but wasn't the point being able to win the Tour? And Evans hasn't won any of the Grand Tours.

Genius!

Riis spins a web

Today's stage 9 of the Tour made me remember watching the movie Overcoming, about Team CSC in 2004. I only saw the movie one time but I recall a scene following a stage that had CSC doing a lot of work with US Postal to chase down and attack by Jan Ullrich.

Riis pulled Basso aside and "suggested" to Basso that CSC were not helping Postal. Basso nodded in agreement and again Riis "suggested" in stronger terms that implied that this was the storyline that the team was to follow.

Today, Contador appeared to be knocked over by Vladimir Karpets of Katusha

After the stage Riis and Contador tell reporters that Contador's brake hood got hooked by Karpets' saddle.

Unfortunately, they didn't seem to tell Karpets and Team Katusha the revised story before facing the reporters.

I'm glad to see that Karpets got his head on straight and realized that he didn't really knock Contador over. *wink *wink *nudge* *nudge*
